Salvador Dalí Museum, Art museum in downtown Saint Petersburg, United States.
The Salvador Dalí Museum is an art collection in St. Petersburg, Florida, displaying one of the largest assemblies of works by the Catalan artist outside Europe. The building combines a rectangular concrete construction with a spiral glass structure visible from the bayfront.
A collector couple from Ohio brought the works to Florida in 1982 after assembling them over decades. The current building opened in 2011 as a replacement for the previous location and offers more space for the growing collection.
The name honors the Spanish artist whose surreal works span different decades of his creative output. Visitors experience the evolution of his visual language from early pieces to later experiments with form and color.
The entrance with the glass spiral sits directly on the waterfront promenade and is easy to find from the parking area. Weekday mornings work best for touring the gallery spaces when fewer groups are present.
Architects oriented the glass facade toward the north to channel natural light without direct sun into the galleries. This choice protects sensitive pigments and materials from fading through UV exposure.
