The Museum of Fine Arts is an art institution in downtown St. Petersburg that displays artworks and artifacts from multiple continents spanning 5,000 years of human civilization. The collections are arranged in large gallery spaces where you can find paintings, sculptures, and decorative objects from different periods and cultures.

The museum opened in 1965 in a building designed by John Volk & Associates on a waterfront site. The institution expanded over time, adding new gallery spaces to accommodate growing collections and rotating exhibitions.

The collection brings together works from Africa, Asia, and the Americas alongside European pieces, showing how different cultures created their own artistic traditions. Walking through the galleries, you notice how artists from different parts of the world approached similar themes in their own ways.

The museum offers exhibitions and programs throughout the year, including evening events on select Thursdays that provide a different experience. Plan to spend several hours for a comfortable walk through all the galleries.

The Hazel Hough Wing, designed by Yann Weymouth of HOK, added 39,000 square feet and more than doubled the museum's footprint. On the south lawn stands a bombax tree planted by founding director Rexford Stead to commemorate the 50-year-old Art Club building demolished on the site after the museum opened in 1965.
