The State Theatre occupies a former bank building at 687 Central Avenue that features three prominent bays defined by pilasters and ionic capitals. The structure displays a symmetrical Beaux-Arts facade with decorative bas-relief detailing including an eagle positioned above the arched entrance.
Architect Neel Reid designed the original Alexander National Bank building in 1924 following Beaux-Arts principles. It underwent significant renovation by Archie Parrish in 1949 before opening as the State Theatre.
The venue transitioned from showing films to hosting live music performances and now attracts established artists and bands. Visitors experience an active music scene that shapes the cultural life of the downtown area.
