Clearwater Beach

Clearwater Beach is a coastal town on the Gulf of Mexico in western Florida. The wide sandy shore runs parallel to a long road lined with hotels, shops, and restaurants.

The railway connection in the early 20th century made the area accessible to travelers from the north. The former fishing village transformed over the decades into a busy resort town.

The name comes from the unusually clear water springs found in the area. Families spend afternoons playing volleyball on the sand or walking along the promenade.

Access to the shore is possible at several points, with early morning hours usually quieter. Parking lots fill quickly on weekends, so arriving early helps.

The marine aquarium nearby took in a famous female dolphin who later inspired a movie. Visitors who look carefully sometimes spot dolphins from the shore in the waves.
