The Centro Asturiano building features a three-story yellow brick structure with classical columns and a stone stairway at Nebraska and Palm Avenues.
Established in 1902, Spanish immigrants from Asturias created this mutual aid society to provide medical care, education, and social services to members.
The grand theater and ballroom within the building served as primary venues for Spanish theatrical performances and social gatherings in Tampa.
The center maintains meeting spaces and facilities for public events, with a 50-foot onyx bar in the cantina area.
The organization operated its own hospital, known as El Sanatorio del Centro Asturiano, from 1905 to 1990, advancing cooperative medicine practices.
