Bay Haven School

Bay Haven School is a school building in Mediterranean Revival style located in west Sarasota and designed by architect M. Leo Elliott. The structure features characteristic Spanish architectural details and continues to function as an educational facility.

The building was constructed in 1926 as one of the early modern school facilities in the Sarasota region. It was established as part of a planned approach to provide educational resources for a developing neighborhood.

The school displays Mediterranean Revival design features that were popular for institutional buildings in 1920s Florida. Its architectural style reflects how communities at that time chose to construct their educational facilities.

The building is located in a residential area and can be viewed from the outside to observe its architectural features. Access to the interior depends on school operations and should be arranged in advance.

The location was specifically selected by city planner John Nolen and was one of two designated sites for schools in the new residential area. This strategic planning helped shape how the growing community was organized.
