Selby Public Library is a large multi-story building in downtown Sarasota with reading areas, meeting rooms, and digital resources available to the community. Inside, you'll find traditional book collections alongside computer workstations and specialized spaces designed for different types of study and work.
The library was founded in 1907 as Sarasota's first public library. It moved to its current First Street location in 1998.
The library maintains the Sarasota Music Archive, containing several hundred thousand recordings and memorabilia that document the region's musical heritage since 1980.
The library is accessible throughout the week and offers plenty of space for working and reading. Come during morning or early afternoon hours for a quieter experience, as it gets busier in the late afternoon.
The children's section features a large saltwater aquarium that marks the entrance to the youth area. This aquarium is a distinctive focal point that draws young visitors into the space.
