Gulfcoast Wonder & Imagination Zone, Science museum in Sarasota, Florida, US
The Gulfcoast Wonder & Imagination Zone was a science museum in Sarasota where visitors engaged with interactive exhibits on physics, biology, and earth sciences. The building housed the Blivas Science & Technology Center and contained dedicated spaces designed for learning across different age groups.
The museum opened in 2000 after relocating from the Florida West Coast Symphony building into a former library structure. It operated in this location until 2012 when the building was eventually demolished for new development.
The museum served as a place where visitors engaged directly with science through hands-on exploration and discovery. Families and school groups came here to ask questions and find answers by experimenting themselves.
Visitors had access to over 100 programs designed for different age groups, making it easy for families and schools to find appropriate activities. The location near Sarasota Bay made it convenient for people throughout the region to visit.
The building was designed by architect Walter Netsch and featured design elements based on his Field Theory approach. These architectural features made it a notable example of modern design before the structure was demolished in 2019.
