Bing Rooming House, African American museum in Plant City, United States.
The Bing Rooming House is a two-story residential building in Plant City that served as lodging for Black professionals during segregation. Today it holds exhibits, documents, and storyboards that explain the experiences of the African American population during that period.
The building was established to provide lodging for Black professionals and athletes at a time when other accommodations were closed to them. Notable visitors such as baseball player Satchel Paige used the house during their time in the city.
The house shows how African American communities lived and worked during segregation. Visitors see personal items and photographs that document the daily lives of teachers, craftspeople, and athletes from that era.
Access is available on certain days of the week, and parking is available nearby. Plan about one hour to explore the exhibits and collections thoroughly.
The family of original owners Janie and E.L. Bing Sr. later donated the house to a nonprofit organization. This made it possible to convert it into a museum that now documents and preserves local Black history for visitors.
