Sugarloaf Mountain, Mountain ridge in Lake County, Florida, United States.

Sugarloaf Mountain is a mountain ridge in Lake County, Florida, rising to 312 feet (95 meters) above sea level and forming a clear high point in an otherwise flat landscape. The wooded slopes spread across an area covered with dense vegetation of oaks, pines, and palmetto palms that shade the walking trails.

Citrus plantations covered the slopes until the 1980s, when unusually cold winters brought farming activity to an end. The area then gradually shifted to recreational use with trails for hikers and cyclists.

The name comes from the gently rounded silhouette that resembles a loaf of sugar rising above the landscape. Hikers and cyclists use the forest trails year-round for longer excursions into nature.

The Green Mountain Scenic Byway leads to the mountain with parking areas and informational signs along the route. Trails can be hot in summer, so an early morning or late afternoon visit is recommended with drinking water and sun protection.

This formation is considered the fifth-highest named point in Florida and originated about 2 million years ago from ancient sand dunes. The shape stands out clearly from the surrounding lowlands and remains visible from a distance.
