Breakers Hotel, Mediterranean Revival hotel in Palm Beach, US
The Breakers is a Mediterranean Revival resort on the Atlantic Ocean in Palm Beach, offering 534 rooms across multiple floors of a large building complex. The property covers more than 56 hectares and includes several wings as well as auxiliary buildings with restaurants and leisure facilities.
Henry Morrison Flagler founded the original Palm Beach Inn in 1895, which was rebuilt in 1925 by architects Schultze & Weaver following two fires. The reconstruction gave the property its present form and transformed it into a resort of international standing.
The name recalls the Atlantic waves breaking on the private shore, a feature that drew early visitors seeking an exclusive coastal retreat. Today families from around the world gather in the public spaces, while the ballrooms continue to serve as settings for social occasions.
The resort offers several swimming pools, access to a private beach, golf courses, and tennis courts available to guests. Restaurants and shops are located within the complex, so most services are accessible on foot.
The ceilings display hand-painted frescoes and tapestries created by 75 artisans during the 1925 reconstruction. Individual design elements were modeled on Roman prototypes such as Villa Medici and crafted directly in Italy.
