Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach is a coastal city in Broward County in southeastern Florida. The layout extends on both sides of the waterway running parallel to the coast, with residential neighborhoods to the west and hotels and shops near the shore.

The railroad reached this stretch of coast in 1896 and brought the first settlers to what was then uninhabited land. Decades later, the location grew into a major hub for commercial fishing in Florida.

Daily life unfolds along the coastline, where boat docks and fishing vessels sit alongside hotels and restaurants. Visitors see anglers early in the morning, surfers when the waves rise, and divers heading out to the reefs offshore.

The beach can be reached through several public access points, most with parking and restrooms. Water temperatures remain warm year-round, though the months from May through October can bring more rain and stronger surf.

An artificial reef system was sunk offshore to create habitat for marine life and offer divers new sites to explore. Old shipwrecks and concrete structures now provide homes for coral and fish.
