Butterfly World, Zoo and botanical garden in Coconut Creek, Florida.
Butterfly World is a facility in Coconut Creek featuring six climate-controlled aviaries where approximately 20,000 butterflies from three continents fly freely. The spaces are planted with tropical vegetation and flowing water features to create a natural environment for the insects.
The facility opened in 1988 and was the first of its kind in North America dedicated to housing butterflies and conducting research. It was established with a focus on conservation and breeding programs for butterfly species.
The place serves as a space where visitors connect with nature and learn about insect life cycles. People come here to observe how butterflies behave in an environment that mirrors their natural habitat.
The location is easiest to reach by car and provides ample parking directly on-site. Visitors should prepare for warm, humid conditions indoors, so light clothing is recommended.
Staff members breed over 150 different butterfly species and maintain specific host plants for each variety. A significant portion of the pupae raised here are shipped to schools and museums throughout North America.
