Broward County

Broward County is a subdivision in southeastern Florida that stretches along the Atlantic coastline and includes several cities as well as protected natural areas. Canals run through the territory, linking wetlands with urban centers positioned between the ocean and the Everglades.

The area was established in 1915 and named after a former governor who had promoted drainage projects in the Everglades. Development accelerated after World War II, when new communities formed and the coastline was built up.
