Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 34, former rocket launch site in Brevard County, Florida

Launch Complex 34 is a launch pad at Cape Canaveral, Florida, featuring a large concrete platform and the remains of a service tower from the space program era. The site shows the original infrastructure of a launch facility, including a blockhouse nearby and flame deflectors that once directed heat from rocket launches.

Construction began in 1959 and the site was active from 1961, initially launching Saturn I rockets. The tragic Apollo 1 fire on January 27, 1967 killed three astronauts during a test, leading to major safety improvements afterward.

A memorial plaque at the site honors the three Apollo 1 astronauts by name and tells visitors about their sacrifice for space exploration. The site has become a place where people come to remember those who gave their lives pursuing discovery beyond Earth.

The site is fenced off and visitors cannot get close to the launch pad or memorials directly. The best way to see the remains and structures is from a distance, and you can learn the history through informational signs and plaques at the location.

On clear nights, a full moon can rise over the launch platform, creating a visual connection between this ground-based site and space exploration. This sight links the historical location symbolically to humanity's quest to reach the Moon.
