The Folkston Railfan Platform is an observation facility on the CSX Nahunta Subdivision where visitors can watch and photograph trains. The covered structure includes seating areas, ceiling fans, and a radio scanner for monitoring train movements along this busy rail line.

The first train reached Folkston in June 1881, on the Savannah, Florida and Western Railroad. The viewing platform itself was built in 2001 with a $30,000 state grant, giving railfans a safe place to photograph trains on the CSX Nahunta Subdivision.

The platform draws train enthusiasts who gather to watch and photograph passing trains, sharing their documentation with others who visit. It has become a social hub where visitors bond over their shared interest in rail transportation.

The facility is free to visit and offers wireless internet for sharing photos and information with other rail fans. Bring water and sun protection, as the platform is exposed to weather despite having a roof for basic shade.

This junction is known as the Folkston Funnel, where the volume of daily train traffic creates an unusually concentrated viewing experience. Few places in the country offer such a steady stream of freight and passenger trains within a single vantage point.
