Warm Springs Historic District, Historic rehabilitation complex in Warm Springs, Georgia, US
Warm Springs Historic District is a protected area with buildings from the 1920s and 1930s in Georgia. The grounds include therapy facilities, residences, and the Little White House spread across a wooded hillside.
A politician came here in 1924 to recover from polio and bought the property three years later to establish a treatment center. The facility drew many patients and medical staff in the following decades.
The facility became a place where patients from different regions sought treatment and practiced together in therapy pools. The name comes from the warm springs that once stood at the center of all therapy offerings.
The institute now provides vocational rehabilitation, long-term care, and inpatient treatment for patients with physical conditions. Visitors can explore the grounds and some historic buildings while medical areas remain reserved for patients.
The natural springs hold a constant temperature of 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 degrees Celsius) year-round and release about 914 gallons (3,460 liters) per minute. These properties made the water especially suitable for extended exercise sessions in the pool.
