Drake Field, Football stadium in Auburn, Alabama.
Drake Field was a football and baseball stadium in Auburn featuring a natural grass playing surface. The facility included bleacher seating arrangements with a capacity of approximately 7,550 spectators.
Named after college physician John Hodges Drake III, the stadium opened on October 7, 1911, when Auburn's football team defeated Mercer 29-0 in the inaugural game. It served the local sports community for several decades afterward.
The stadium served as a central venue for both Auburn University Tigers and Auburn High School Tigers football teams, strengthening local sports connections.
The facility remained active for many decades and accommodated various sports competitions at a single location. The grounds were easily accessible on foot and served the local community as a gathering space.
The facility closed in the late 1960s and its grounds were subsequently redeveloped for Auburn University's student union building. This transformation reflects how the university evolved and redirected its facilities to meet changing campus needs.
