Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, Art museum at Auburn University, Alabama, US
The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art is an art museum located on Auburn University's campus in Alabama, housing works from the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection features American and European art by artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Pablo Picasso, along with the Bill L. Harbert Collection containing pieces by Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
This institution was established in 2003 through a generous donation by Albert Smith, given as a 50th wedding anniversary gift for his wife Jule Collins Smith. The gift created an important art museum at the heart of the university campus.
The permanent collection displays detailed bird illustrations from the Louise Hauss and David Brent Miller Audubon Collection, created by naturalist John James Audubon. These works reflect a tradition of blending scientific observation with artistic skill from the 1800s.
The museum is situated on Auburn's campus and offers free admission to all visitors. It participates in the North American Reciprocal Museums program, which provides additional benefits for museum-goers.
The museum houses a significant collection of European art through the Harbert Collection, which brings together masterpieces by four major European artists. This particular assembly allows visitors to encounter different styles and periods of European art in one location.
