Fort Yargo State Park

Fort Yargo State Park is a large nature reserve featuring forests, a substantial lake, and diverse habitats spread across hundreds of acres. The grounds include extensive recreation areas, trails for walking and biking, and a reconstructed log structure from the early settlement era.

The log fort was built in 1792 by early settlers as a defensive structure during a period of frontier tensions. It remains one of the few examples of this construction style from Georgia's founding era.

The park allows visitors to experience early Georgia settlement firsthand through its reconstructed log fort, which demonstrates how pioneers once lived and worked. These remaining structures tell the story of daily frontier life during the early colonial period.

The park offers a range of overnight lodging options including tent and RV camping areas as well as cabins and alternative structures for longer stays. Conditions vary across different sections, and sturdy footwear is recommended for walking the forest trails.
