Herty Field, Historic football field at University of Georgia, Athens, United States.
Positioned near Moore College, Herty Field encompasses a large green space with walkways where students gather for outdoor activities and recreation.
The field hosted Georgia's first intercollegiate football game in 1892, where the University of Georgia defeated Mercer College with a score of 50-0.
Named after chemistry professor Charles Holmes Herty, the field represents the establishment of organized collegiate sports in the state of Georgia.
The field transformed from a sports venue to a parking lot in the 1940s before returning to a green space in 1999 for student gatherings.
During the inaugural football game at this location, the University of Georgia team used a goat as their mascot instead of a bulldog.
