The structure, built between 1827 and 1829, served as the Commandant's House of the Augusta Arsenal during military operations.
Stephen Vincent Benét wrote his first book, Five Men and Pompey, in 1915 while residing at this Federal period residence.
The house currently functions as the office of admissions for the Summerville campus of Augusta University in Richmond County.
The building remains the only major structure connected to Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Vincent Benét's early writing career.
