Christ Church

Christ Church is a white wooden structure with Gothic Revival elements including pointed arches and stained glass windows, set within a cemetery containing ancient oak trees. The interior maintains simple craftsmanship while the exterior presents a modest elegance enhanced by its natural surroundings.

The original church was established in 1736 during early English settlement of the island and remained a fixture in the community. It was destroyed during the Civil War and subsequently rebuilt in 1884.

The congregation has served as a center for the local community since its founding, with members representing generations of island families. Visitors can observe how the space continues to host gatherings that shape daily life here.

The site is open during daylight hours for visitors to explore the cemetery and view the exterior of the building at their own pace. Guided tours or service times may be available for a deeper experience of the location and its ongoing role.

A beehive was discovered in the church steeple during the 1840s, and the honey produced was sold to help fund building repairs. This unexpected resource played a small but real part in maintaining the structure during that era.
