Wormsloe Historic Site, State park and colonial plantation on Isle of Hope, United States.
Wormsloe Historic Site is a state park and former colonial plantation on Isle of Hope in Savannah, accessible via a nearly 1.5-mile entrance road. Along this road, old live oaks form a natural tunnel, their branches covered with Spanish moss.
Noble Jones, who arrived in Georgia with James Oglethorpe in 1733, founded this fortified settlement to guard the southern approach to Savannah. Later a plantation developed here that remained in the family for generations.
Staff members dressed in period clothing demonstrate how people cooked, practiced crafts, or fired weapons during the 18th century in front of visitors. These demonstrations take place on the grounds and offer impressions of daily life during colonial times.
The address is 7601 Skidaway Road and admission is collected at the entrance. The grounds include walking trails, a museum, and restroom facilities for visitors.
The ruins of Noble Jones's residence from 1745 are the oldest surviving building in Savannah. It was built from tabby, a material made of oyster shells, sand, and water.
