Oak Island, Coastal town in Brunswick County, North Carolina, United States.

Oak Island is a coastal town stretching along the Atlantic Ocean with two main fishing piers and numerous public beach access points throughout the town. The barrier island community provides ample opportunities for swimming, fishing, and other water-based activities along its shoreline.

Fort Caswell was built in 1838 on the eastern end, marking the beginning of settlement in this area. The fortification established an important military presence that influenced the region's early development.

The NC Festival by the Sea and NC 4th of July Festival bring together residents and visitors for celebrations throughout the year.

The town is accessible via two main bridges and welcomes visitors year-round with facilities suited to both quiet seasons and busy summer periods. Planning ahead during peak months helps ensure a better experience on the island.

A major hurricane in 1954 devastated the western end, reducing the settlement to just five buildings. Despite this catastrophe, the community rebuilt and expanded into a thriving coastal destination.
