Roman Gladiator, Bronze sculpture in Golden Gate Park, United States
The 11-foot-tall bronze statue depicts a male figure wearing a cape and helmet while holding a sword in his right hand.
Belgian artist Joris Geefs created this statue in 1881, which later marked the inauguration of the California Midwinter International Exposition in 1893.
The statue reflects the 19th-century artistic movement that emphasized classical themes and the representation of strength through ancient warrior figures.
Located in the northern section of the Music Concourse, visitors can find the statue across from the de Young Museum entrance.
The sculpture has been exhibited internationally, including Brussels in 1880 and the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago during 1883.
