Spreckels Temple of Music, Classical bandshell in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, United States
The Spreckels Temple of Music stands 70 feet high, constructed of Colusa sandstone with an acoustically reflective coffered shell in Italian Renaissance style.
Sugar magnate Claus Spreckels funded the construction of this musical venue in 1900, spending $75,000 to create a space for public performances.
The bandshell features two relief sculptures by Robert Ingersoll Aitken, depicting a lyre and trumpet as symbols of musical expression.
The structure underwent a $3.1 million seismic upgrade following the Loma Prieta earthquake to ensure safety during contemporary performances.
Between 10,000 and 20,000 listeners gather at this bandshell throughout the year, including celebrations of the Polish Constitution of May 3.
