The construction of this major development started in 1971 under the direction of developers Trammell Crow, David Rockefeller, and John Portman.

The center accommodates 14,000 office employees and connects directly to public transportation through the BART system at Embarcadero Station.
Each winter, the complex transforms part of its space into an outdoor ice skating rink, offering recreational activities in downtown San Francisco.
