Trader Vic's, Tiki bar in Emeryville, California, US
Trader Vic's is a tiki bar in Emeryville, California, that uses Chinese wood-fired ovens for preparation and serves dishes from Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Asian traditions. The venue combines several culinary styles under one roof and offers both lunch and dinner in its waterfront dining room.
Victor Bergeron founded this venue in 1944 and created the Mai Tai cocktail here, which was later described by a friend in Tahitian. The concept expanded and led to the opening of locations in several countries.
The decor draws on Pacific motifs and brings them together with international influences in the style of a tropical retreat. Guests enter a space that recalls distant islands while also combining elements from several continents.
The venue is located at 9 Anchor Drive and opens Wednesday through Sunday, with lunch from noon and dinner from 5 PM. The waterfront location makes access easier for visitors arriving by car.
The chain now includes 25 locations in 11 countries, with each branch using Chinese ovens from the time of the Han Dynasty for cooking. These ovens come from a tradition more than two thousand years old and still shape the flavor of many dishes.
