The Farm, Community center in Bayview, San Francisco, US.
The Farm is a community center located in Bayview, positioned across from Heron's Head Park on Port of San Francisco property. It shares its space with Bay Natives Nursery and Heron's Head Nursery, creating a shared venue for different types of activities and programs.
This center was founded in 1974 by Bonnie Ora Sherk and Jack Wickert as an environmental art project. It operated at its original location on Army Street and Potrero Avenue before closing that site in 1987.
This venue serves as a gathering space where people of different backgrounds participate in free concerts, art shows, and learning activities. The regular events reflect the diverse communities of San Francisco and create opportunities for creative and social connection.
Visitors can contact newfarmbooking@gmail.com to organize or book events at this center. All activities and programs remain free and open to the public.
During its early years, the original building had vegetable gardens and farm animals on the ground level, while the upper level housed a library and art gallery. This mixing of farming and art on separate floors was an unusual approach for the time.
