Altamont Raceway Park, Motorsport racing track in Tracy, California, United States.
Altamont Raceway Park was a motorsport complex in Tracy, San Joaquin County, California, featuring a large oval, a smaller loop, and a winding road course. The different layouts shared common spectator areas and pit facilities along the edge of the main circuit.
The course opened in the late 1960s and drew regional and national racing series over the following decades. After several ownership changes the facility ceased operations in 2008 and the land was later repurposed.
The facility took its name from the nearby Altamont Pass, a mountain crossing in the Diablo Range. Drivers and spectators knew the venue for its compact grandstands and open views across several track layouts at once.
The site sat east of the San Francisco Bay Area between two highways in dry rolling hills with good access from several directions. Visitors found on-site parking and food service during events.
A music festival in December 1969 gathered hundreds of thousands of people on the grounds and entered rock history as a turbulent event. The rushed stage setup and unprepared infrastructure shaped the chaotic mood of that day.
