Hawke Castle, Norman style residence in Modesto, California, US
The castle extends over 4,164 square feet with six bedrooms, four bathrooms, and living areas in both the basement and attic sections.
Edward Hawke, manager of the local J.C. Penney store, had this Norman architectural residence constructed in 1929 for a cost of 200,000 dollars.
The structure stands at 115 Magnolia Street as a representation of early 20th-century Norman architectural design in California residential buildings.
The Thayer Family Trust maintains ownership of the property, which received recognition from the Modesto Bee during the 2018 MADWEEK celebrations.
After Edward Hawke, the property transferred to engineer Al Goldschmidt and teacher Dorothea Goldschmidt, followed by Dr. Burnett Tonge and Bertha Tonge.
