Rancho Cordova

Rancho Cordova is a city in Sacramento County, California, that spreads along the American River and features residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and green spaces. The area sits in the flatlands east of Sacramento and is crossed by the river, which provides recreation and natural corridors throughout the territory.

The area began as a river crossing during the Gold Rush and later grew into a suburb with farming and industry. Residents voted to become a separate city in 2003 after the territory had been part of unincorporated Sacramento County for decades.

The name comes from the vineyards that once grew here, and today you see parks and neighborhoods stretching along the river. People use the green spaces by the water for walking and cycling, especially on weekends when families from nearby come to spend time outdoors.

The river parkway offers trails for walking and cycling that run through the city and can be accessed at several points. Light rail and buses run regularly toward Sacramento and make it easy to reach surrounding areas.

The place sits in an area once known for its wine production before it turned into a residential zone. Today only the name and some old street signs recall the vines that used to grow here.
