Brighton School

Brighton School is a school building with Victorian architectural features, a central entrance, and multiple classrooms in Sacramento County. The building continues to serve as a preschool and is the oldest operating schoolhouse in the county.

The school building was constructed in 1869 and suffered significant damage from fires in the following decades. These fires led to major repairs and modifications that changed the structure over time.

The building carries the name Brighton School and was later called Edward Kelley School, reflecting the evolving story of this educational institution. This renaming shows how local communities honored people who contributed to the region's development.

The school is located at 3312 Bradshaw Road and is accessible from the street. Visitors should note that the building functions as an active preschool and should be visited at appropriate times.

In 1924 the building was relocated from its original location in East Sacramento to its current site in Rosemont, a notable relocation for such an old school structure. This makes it a rare example of a historic building that changed its position while maintaining its function.
