McKinley Park, historic park in Sacramento, California, United States
McKinley Park is an urban park in East Sacramento spanning 32 acres with sports courts, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and a large rose garden. Lake Keisel anchors the center of the grounds with an island built to support waterfowl habitat.
The park was established in 1871 by the Sacramento Street Railway Company under the name East Park and renamed in 1902 to honor President William McKinley. Major renovations in 1988 and 2017 reshaped the grounds and updated facilities for modern use.
The park serves as a gathering place where neighbors come together for celebrations and events throughout the year. Local families use the open spaces for picnics, parties, and community activities that bring the area together.
The grounds offer multiple sports facilities and open areas suitable for different activities and group sizes. Shade is scattered throughout the park, and most areas are accessible with paved pathways for easy navigation.
During the 1920s, the grounds housed an alligator exhibition that offered early entertainment to visitors. This unusual attraction reflected a period when parks experimented with live animal displays alongside recreation.
