Sacramento State University Library, Academic library in Sacramento, United States.
Sacramento State University Library is the main library of California State University Sacramento, located on the university campus in the eastern part of the city. It spans several floors with reading areas, group study rooms, computer stations, and access to a wide range of digital databases.
The library was founded in 1947 alongside Sacramento State College and started in temporary spaces on campus. Over the following decades, the collection grew steadily, leading to a dedicated building that could accommodate more resources and more users.
The library holds the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection, one of the largest collections of Greek history and literature in the western United States. It was donated by a Greek-American benefactor and is open to all visitors, not just university students.
The library is open to all visitors, though some services are reserved for university students. Opening hours change depending on the academic calendar, so it is worth checking ahead of your visit.
Inside the building there is a traditional Japanese tea room with a small adjacent garden where tea ceremonies take place during the academic year. Most visitors walking through the library do not expect to find this kind of space inside a university library.
