Fortuna is a city in Humboldt County situated on the northeast shore of the Eel River. The settlement spreads across a valley floor at an elevation of about 20 meters above sea level.
The settlement was called Slide in 1874, then renamed Springville, and became Fortuna in 1884. Official incorporation as a city came in 1906.
