Ferndale Library, Carnegie library in Ferndale, United States.
Ferndale Library is a Classical Revival style building located at 807 Main Street with a symmetrical facade and decorative architectural elements from 1910. The structure functions as a public lending facility with reading areas, book collections, and computer access for the community.
The library received a grant of 8,000 dollars from Andrew Carnegie in 1908 and opened its doors in 1910. It was part of a nationwide effort to bring library services to small communities across the United States.
The library serves as a gathering place for Ferndale residents who come to access books, digital materials, and educational programs offered through the Humboldt County system. It remains central to community life and learning in this small northern California town.
The library opens Tuesday through Saturday with extended evening hours on Tuesdays until 9 PM. On other days it operates from noon to 5 PM, giving visitors flexible opportunities to visit and use the facilities.
This is the only Carnegie Library in northwestern California still operating as a public library today. The building has served this community continuously for over a century without interruption.
