Concow is a residential settlement in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada at an elevation of about 611 meters (2,000 feet). The area is surrounded by forests of cedar, pine, and oak trees.
The area was originally home to the Concow Maidu people long before European colonization. In November 2018, a major fire destroyed many homes and forced residents to evacuate.
The name Concow comes from the indigenous Concow Maidu people who inhabited this area for generations. This heritage remains an important part of the community's identity today.
Lake Concow Campground provides designated areas for tent camping and self-contained recreational vehicles. The facility includes a dump station and spaces for group activities.
