Sunset Bay State Park, State park along the Oregon Coast in Coos County, US
Sunset Bay State Park is a coastal reserve along the Oregon Pacific shoreline featuring a wide sandy cove framed by tall sandstone cliffs. The natural inlet creates a sheltered beach where the water meets dramatic rock formations that rise from the sand.
The park was established in 1948 when Coos County donated the initial land to create this coastal preserve. Subsequent land purchases through the 1980s expanded the protected area and solidified its role as a public recreation destination.
Local interpreters guide visitors through tidepools and nature walks, sharing knowledge about marine life and coastal ecosystems throughout the seasons.
The grounds offer 130 camping spots with various hookup options, eight yurts, and full amenities for tent and RV camping right near the beach. Facilities are well-developed, making it easy to access the beach and hiking paths around the bay.
A trail network connects this park with two neighboring state parks, offering views toward Gregory Point and the Cape Arago lighthouse. This linkage creates a continuous coastal experience that ties together multiple natural areas.
