Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Golf resort complex in Bandon, Oregon, United States.
Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is a coastal golf complex in the state of Oregon with seven championship courses along cliffs and dunes. Every course offers views of the Pacific, and the facility includes accommodation ranging from rooms to four-bedroom cottages, plus five restaurants.
David McLay Kidd designed the first course, which opened in 1999 and transformed this coastal area into a golf destination. Six more courses followed over the next decades, continuously expanding the original concept.
Players walk the courses on foot in traditional style, experiencing the coastal landscape and staying close to changing conditions. This practice follows the classical approach to golf, where rhythm and terrain become part of the challenge itself.
Guests can choose from different types of accommodation and sample regional and international dishes at five on-site restaurants. Reservations are recommended, as the courses are in high demand and coastal weather conditions can shift quickly.
The Punchbowl is a roughly 100,000-square-foot (9,290 square meter) putting course set in natural hollows, following classical design principles. The layout shows how architects can use the terrain itself as a framework for play.
