Alsea Falls, Waterfall in Benton County, United States.
Alsea Falls is a waterfall in Benton County, Oregon, where the South Fork Alsea River drops roughly 30 feet (9 meters) over moss-covered rocks into a clear pool below. The falls sit inside a dense forest of Douglas fir and western red cedar trees.
The Bureau of Land Management set up this recreation site along a National Back Country Byway to keep the waterfalls and forests of the Oregon Coast Range open to the public. The area has remained accessible ever since and continues to be managed for general public use.
The area is known among anglers who fish for salmon and steelhead during the colder months in the river below the falls. When the weather warms up, visitors wade and swim in the pools at the base.
The trails are clearly marked and the site has picnic areas and drinking water available on site. Mountain biking trails also connect to the area, so it is worth checking the route options before you arrive.
The mountain biking trails around this waterfall are among the few in Oregon that bring cyclists directly alongside a waterfall. This means the cascade can be seen from several points along the route, not just from the base.
