Saddle Mountain State Natural Area

The mountain rises 3,290 feet above sea level, featuring a 2.5-mile trail through forests, wildflower meadows, and rocky terrain to reach the summit.

Oregon's State Land Board obtained 1,402 acres from the federal government in 1916, establishing the foundation for this natural preservation area.

The Clatsop Native American tribe recognized this mountain as a significant geographical feature long before European settlers arrived in the region.

The main trail increases 1,640 feet in elevation over its length, with metal mesh sections installed to prevent erosion and provide better traction.

From the summit, visitors can observe both the Columbia River meeting the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains of Oregon and Washington.
