Saddle Mountain, Mountain summit in Clatsop County, Oregon, US
The highest point in Clatsop County rises to 3,288 feet, featuring steep slopes covered with spruce and hemlock forests along its sides.
British captain John Meares first documented the mountain in 1788, naming it Mont de la Selle, followed by Lewis and Clark's exploration in 1805.
The Clatsop Tribe named this mountain Swallalahoost, after a tribal chief, and it holds importance for several Indigenous communities in Oregon.
The summit trail spans 2.4 miles one-way with an elevation gain of 1,603 feet, requiring proper hiking shoes and sufficient water supplies.
The mountain shelters rare plant species, including the Saddle Mountain bittercress and early blue violet, which feeds the silverspot butterfly population.
