Ecola State Park, State park in Oregon Coast region, United States.
Ecola State Park is a coastal state park located between Seaside and Cannon Beach in Oregon. It features dense Sitka spruce forests, dramatic cliffsides, and several beaches where forest meets ocean.
The land was explored in 1806 by William Clark and the Corps of Discovery, who passed through while searching for a beached whale near present-day Cannon Beach. This expedition documented the coastal region during an important period of American westward exploration.
The name comes from the Chinook language, reflecting the indigenous peoples who lived on these coasts for centuries before European contact.
The park offers several hiking trails including segments of the Oregon Coast Trail and shorter forest paths for different ability levels. Sturdy footwear is recommended, as trails can be muddy and uneven, especially during wet weather.
Indian Beach within the park offers elevated viewpoints to watch migrating gray whales during winter and spring months. The beach is also popular with surfers, creating an unusual blend of wildlife viewing and water sports.
