Short Sand Beach

Short Sand Beach is a sandy shore along the Pacific coast that extends for about 2 kilometers and is bordered by thick forests and volcanic basalt cliffs. The beach features a natural coastal setting where steep rock formations frame the water's edge.

The area became part of Oswald West State Park in 1931, marking the start of Oregon's coastal land protection efforts. This designation preserved the natural landscape from development.

Local surfers know this place as Shorty's, and it serves as a key gathering spot for Pacific Northwest surfers.

The beach is accessible through a forest trail of about half a mile from the main parking area on Highway 101. The path can be muddy after rain, so sturdy footwear is advisable.

Short Sand Creek flows across the beach and creates a freshwater source where it meets the Pacific Ocean. This meeting of creek and sea makes for an unusual natural feature.
