Manhattan Beach State Recreation Site, Beach recreation area in Rockaway Beach, Oregon
Manhattan Beach State Recreation Site is a coastal park covering around 41 acres of Pacific shoreline, surrounded by pine forest with picnic tables and beach access points. The park stretches between Tillamook Bay and Nehalem Bay, offering multiple ways to reach the water and explore the coastline.
The name comes from around 1912 when the Pacific Railway & Navigation Company developed the area as a summer resort destination and built a rail line through it. This early development by the railway company shaped the foundation of what exists today.
The location serves as a key waypoint on the Oregon Coast Trail, linking multiple walking sections along the Pacific shoreline. The trail connection shapes how many visitors experience and move through the area.
Admission is free and the park has restroom facilities plus fishing areas along the beach. The amenities are spread across several entry points and work well for different activity levels.
From the beach you can see Twin Rocks, two distinctive rock formations rising from the Pacific that dominate the southern shoreline. These natural landmarks are visible from different spots throughout the park.
