Nehalem Bay State Park, State park on Pacific coast in Tillamook County, United States.
Nehalem Bay State Park sits on a sand peninsula wedged between the Pacific Ocean and a bay, with coastal forests and open beaches throughout. The grounds contain various camping areas, including spots for RVs, small cabin-like structures, and dedicated spaces for horse campers.
The area was transferred to Oregon in 1938 with plans to become a recreational park. It officially opened as a state park in 1972 after additional land was added.
The name comes from the Salish people who lived here and fished these waters for generations. Visitors can still sense how deeply connected the indigenous communities were to this coastal landscape.
The park offers various lodging options to suit different preferences and needs. Visitors should note that boat docks operate only from mid-May through mid-October.
An active airstrip sits within the park grounds, welcoming small aircraft since 1958. This working runway makes the space one of the few parks where aviation and nature coexist.
