Short Beach, Sandy shore in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States.
Short Beach is a beach on the northern Oregon coast, tucked between Cape Meares and Oceanside in Tillamook County. Sandy stretches alternate with rocky sections, and tall cliffs rise along both sides of the shoreline.
Before 2000, the only way down to the beach was a muddy slope that caused injuries to visitors over the years. A community effort led to the construction of wooden stairs that year, making the descent much safer.
Short Beach is part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge, and the rocky sections of the shore serve as nesting ground for coastal birds. Visitors who walk quietly along the cliffs can often spot seabirds resting on the rocks just offshore.
The beach is reached by a set of wooden stairs off Cape Meares Loop Road, and parking at the trailhead is very limited. Arriving early in the day is the best way to avoid waiting, especially on warm weekends.
Two waterfalls drop from the cliffs directly onto the beach, and a small creek also meets the Pacific here. Having both waterfalls and a creek outlet on the same short stretch of coast is something very few beaches in Oregon offer.
