Three Arch Rocks National Wildlife Refuge

Three Arch Rocks National Wildlife Refuge consists of three large rocks and six smaller islands located half a mile from the Oregon coast.

President Theodore Roosevelt declared this area a National Wildlife Refuge in 1907, making it the first refuge west of the Mississippi River.

William Finley and Herman Bohlman documented the need to protect seabirds and marine mammals through their photographs of wildlife in the early 1900s.

Visitors must maintain a distance of 500 feet from the islands by boat during summer months and aircraft need to stay 2,000 feet above.

The refuge houses Oregon's largest seabird nesting colony with over 230,000 birds, including the largest tufted puffin colony in the state.
